Chicago-based wrestling promotion Freelance Wrestling celebrated its 10th Anniversary with the show Freelance X. Freelance X Full Results:
Pre-Lance: Robbie Reeves vs. Mason Morgan
Ring announcer Jason Midas welcomed everyone to the show and ran down the card as a Freelance Academy match took place before the show went live on IWTV. Robbie Reeves took on Mason Morgan as both wanted to kick off the biggest show in Freelance history with a win. They both brought it all and hit their opponent with grueling slam maneuvers. In the end it was Reeves who had his hand raised to kick off Freelance X.
Winner: Robbie Reeves
Scramble Match: Matt Knicks vs. GPA vs. Devon Monroe vs. Sabin Gauge vs. Darius Latrell vs. Alfonso Gonzalez
The show kicked off with the six-way scramble as many Freelance Wrestling shows do. The match saw many athletic moments as each competitor had time to show what they could do between the ropes. Many different styles of pro wrestling were on display which was extremely evident when Darius Latrell and Sabin Gauge were the only two in the ring. Gauge backed into Darious and immediately knew he was in trouble as his speed and flying ability were not enough to escape the strength and power of Darious Latrell. In the end, Devon Monroe picked up the win to kick off the main card of the biggest show in Freelance history.
Winner: Devon Monroe
Sandra Moone vs. Regan Lydale
Freelance Wreslting’s own Bigg Hoss Hippie, Regan Lydale took on Sandra Moone who has made a name for herself on the West Coast independent wrestling scene. The crowd was firmly behind Lydale as she carried the Chicago themed Freelance Wrestling flag to the ring with her for the match. Although the match was in Lydale’s backyard, it was not an easy day at the office for Lydale. Moone gave Lydale everything she could handle and more as the two traded hard-hitting slams and strikes. It looked bleak for Lydale at times, but she fed off of the energy of the sold-out crowd and rallied back to pick up the win in front of a sold out crowd in her hometown.
Winner: Regan Lydale
Isaias Velazquez vs. Danhausen
Danhausen made his return to Logan Square Auditorium in a Freelance ring for the first time in four years. Ironically, the last time he was in a Freelance ring at LSA, it was against Isaias Velazquez as it was at Freelance X. Four years ago, Isaias got the better of Danhausen. He tried to play mind games by putting on the cape of Danhausen. Danhausen returned with the use of teeth and a curse to win the match. In one of the most unique curses ever seen, Danhausen cursed Velazques while he was on the top rope which saw Velazquez fall onto the top rope and allowed Danuasen to pick up the pinfall win.
Winner: Danhausen
Trevor Outlaw (with Frank the Clown) vs. Chico Suave
Trevor Outlaw is…. well……very rude. He found someone just as (if not more) rude in Frank the Clown to be in his corner. The Freelance Faithful are not exactly fans of the rudeness (see the below photo for example, and see more awesome photos from the photographer on Twitter and Instagram). Trevor took on Chico Suave in a no-holds-barred match that saw the two use doors, chairs, and everything in between against each other. Trevor was busted open early as the action spilled into the crowd. Frank tried to get involved but was neutralized as Chico handcuffed him to the ring rope. Frank was able to procure a microphone in which he tried to stop Chico from using a chair on him. This cost Chico as the distraction allowed Trevor to pick up the win.
Winner: Trevor Outlaw (sigh)
Trevor also had this to say about the match.
“I’ve torn ligaments, spurred bones, and now bled buckets for this company. If it wasn’t apparent I’m coming for everything at freelance before, it sure as shit is now”
Bang and Matthews vs. Motor City Machine Guns
Davey Bang and August Matthews welcomed Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley to Freelance Wrestling. The two teams started off by showing respect, but it did not last long. Both teams used hard-hitting double-team moves with the Machine Guns utilizing some underhanded double-team tactics. It looked like the veterans were going to pick up the win on multiple occasions, but the resilience of Bang and Matthews kept them in the match. After a signature “Spears Tower” the hometown tag team picked up the win in a match that had the crowd in a frenzy from start to finish.
Winner: Bang and Matthews
Davey Bang had this to say regarding the match.
“It was a legit dream match come true”
Freelance Legacy Championship: Darin Corbin (c) vs. Koda Hernandez
Darin Corbin was the first champion to defend his title at Freelance X. He tried to make it a short night as he struck Koda Hernandez with the belt and busted him open before the bell rang. This gave him an advantage early in the match as Koda had to claw back from early on. It didn’t look good for Koda as he was nearly pinned seconds into the match but was able to kick out at the last second. It was an uphill battle for Koda but in the end, he picked up the win for the first title change of the evening.
Winner: Koda Hernandez
Freelance World Tag Team Championship match BUSSY (c) vs. The Syndicate
Effy and Allie Katch hit the ring to defend their Freelance World Tag Team Championships. They knew they would defend against the Syndicate, but Shane Mercer’s partner was up in the air. It was revealed by James Russo to be none other than Calvin Tankman. The size and strength advantage was clearly in the corner of the challengers but BUSSY put up a hard fight. In the end, the size and strength of They Syndicate (as well as the interference from Russo) was too much for the champions, and we had the second title change of the night.
Winners: The Syndicate
Freelance World Championship: Storm Grayson (c) vs. Kylie Rae
Kylie Rae has been synonymous with Freelance Wrestling for many years. It felt appropriate that she be part of the main event of Freelance X. She challenged Storm Grayson who used his size advantage to hit Kylie with a brutal piledriver on the stage and nearly picked up the win via count out. Kylie fought her way back to the ring and later attempted a superkick that accidentally hit the referee. Storm took advantage of the referee being down and grabbed a chair which was taken by Kylie.
Storm begged Kylie not to hit him, even hugging Kylie who appeared to not want to strike him with the chair. Just as Storm thought he was safe, Kylie blasted him with the chair as the referee attempted to count the pinfall. Just when it looked like Kylie was going to win the match, Isais Velazquez pulled the referee from the ring and allowed Sabin Gauge to interfere. This let Storm pick up the win as he, Isais, and Sabin ended the show standing strong.
